How do I revoke this report? > As Jeff G said in http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=138 (updating to currently preferred deputies address use "@" in place of "[at]"): SpamCop reports are sent via SMTP email, and SMTP has no feature to "unsend" email messages. You should manually send a retraction and apology to those to whom you reported the spam, with a copy mentioning the Report ID to deputies[at]admin.spamcop.net. Any originating ISPs will be able to use your recantation as evidence with SpamCop if your report landed them onto the SpamCop Blocking List. To find those to whom you sent the erroneous report, use the Links "Past Reports" and "View recent reports", leading to the "Show past reports" / "Report History" Page http://www.spamcop.net/mcgi?action=showhistory, http://members.spamcop.net/mcgi?action=showhistory, or http://mailsc.spamcop.net/mcgi?action=showhistory. SpamCop works on the IP address of the sender, not on domains, so there's never a question of a particular domain being being 'caught'. The idea of SpamCop's blocking list is explained at http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/297.html - it only reacts to persistent spam sources *while they're sending spam* (and for a short time after they stop) and of course you have to use it (bl.spamcop.net) in order to catch anything. It is generally felt that a number of complimentary blocklists need to be used, perhaps together with other methods such as greylisting and/or heuristic content filters, in order to effectively block a high proportion of the spam aimed at inboxes. Social networks are always going to be vulnerable to charges of spamming by their nature, by the activities of their members and, just maybe, due to the 'dirty tricks' of some of their competitors. Looking at http://www.robtex.com/dns/reunion.com.html shows two mail exchanges 208.147.48.84 and 216.52.223.145. Feeding those into SenderBase - http://www.senderbase.org/senderbase_queries/detailip?search_string=208.147.48.84 and http://www.senderbase.org/senderbase_queries/detailip?search_string=216.52.223.145 to maybe get some idea of their outgoing servers and volumes (SenderBase doesn't monitor it all) sure enough produces an number of IPs to consider. Feeding the highest seen source back into robtex - http://www.robtex.com/ip/216.52.223.221.html confirms some blacklist entries: ix.dnsbl.manitu.net spam.dnsbl.sorbs.net bl.spamcannibal.org There are links included and the listing criteria of those may be checked and will be seen to be quite different to SC's. The listings may not be current but can be checked at the appropriate site - or by using a command line lookup like nslookup 221.223.52.216.spam.dnsbl.sorbs.net (note quad segments have to be reversed) which yields Non-authoritative answer: Name: 221.223.52.216.spam.dnsbl.sorbs.net Address: 127.0.0.6 (that is, listed). Whereas nslookup 221.223.52.216.bl.spamcop.net gives *** UnKnown can't find 221.223.52.216.bl.spamcop.net: Non-existent domain (that is, not listed - the address would be 127.0.0.2 if it were listed). So, to block reunion.com, guessing from just the one address checked, you might have to use one of the other blocklists seen. And maybe risk blocking some good mail too, a factor that has to be assessed and considered when any anti-spam measures are deployed. In fact, for a social networking outfit I would say reunion.com is doing a pretty good job of keeping their mail clean. We would need to see a *tracking URL* - http://forum.spamcop.net/scwik/TrackingURL - for one of your reports to see what's going on when they spam you and to finally/directly answer your query. The possibilities are far too many to guess at, I think.
