I didn't follow the whole sub thread, but ISTM that his experience
was with Chinese businesses and your experience has been as a
traveler.  Therefore, you are expecting his business experiences to
mirror your travel experiences and he is saying that it just ain't
so.

Or that you are overly optimistic about the good character of
anyone who is Chinese (sort of a reverse prejudice from those who
expect nothing but the worst).  Either way, prejudice is not a
particularly healthy outlook for good communication.
