Are you talking about the American Indians? (Who nearly lost their 
languages because they were forced to use only English in School)? Or 
are you talking about the Mexicans who lived in the south befire the 
Americans "took over" there?

If not, which people who lived there *before* the Americans came are you 
talking about?
