| That would mean no private business were possible in China, which is
| patently untrue.

| And your dealings with Italian companies compare how? Japanese? Thai?
| Indonesian?
All have an element of deception (oddly enough the differences did follow
cultural links/history) but once the terms are set for the most part the
contracts are honored ('normal' things like missed ship dates, QC, material,
labor, etc.) and there has been no knock offs we've detected. The problem
with the Chinese have been duplicated in other dealings to the extent that
we included trivial (things that could be easily corrected before the
production run) errors that made the product unusable/saleable in the mode
produced in the knock off. (H*ll the knock off's even carried our logo).
When I left the company we were still doing production work in China but
kept key elements in house (or finished the work with an unrelated company
in another country) so that knock offs could not be completed outside our
marketing chain.
