I'm not seeing or hearing of such a problem -- but the problem would be the .wab, not OE. There is not only the separate db .wab, but also a separate wab.exe. There are also commandlines for the wab, and you can create multiple wabs You can see some of the commandline parameters using Run wab /?. That dialog doesn't mention /a to open the default wab in administrator mode. OE and the wab are integrated but not 'brilliantly'. eg if you open the wab and use it to open an OE email, you can't do anything else until you 'get rid of' that item. The integration between OE and the wab is obviously integrated with the OE identities, so all of that stuff is handled in the wab registry values. You can also 'integrate' Outlook with this .wab situation. My own system is just a little confused right now, not because of OL, but because I use/added the ancient Win95 Windows Messsaging MAPI client so that I can use the old Win95 fax with my Win98se. So every once in a while while if I'm trying to do something 'funky' [like combine and decode news messages and reply] I get unexpected results while OE tries to do something with the wrong 'identity' of Messaging. There's quite a bit about the wab and its relationship with OE at Tom Koch's site. BTW, my old Win95 fax is also 'integrated' with OpenOffice 2. That fax needs something that can make a fax format. I used to use Word 97 and later Office XP -- but I'm now using OO. Wandering around OT here, but that seemed like more fun than something about a possibly corrupt db file that I wouldn't be able to figure out on my end. -- Mike Easter kibitzer, not SC admin From / at /.cn Thu Jun 1 22:34:09 2006 From: / at /.cn (Petzl) Date: Thu Jun 1 07:35:03 2006 Subject: [SpamCop-Geeks] Re: Outlook Express not saving/removing saved Contacts? I had a similar problem and tried three different enclosures - NONE worked. The drive inside was a working drive that I removed from a working computer. After trying two enclosures, I got a third and when it would not work - took it to the tech boys at a CompUSA (where I had purchased it)and they could not make it work, tried another enclosure, still would not work. Check that the air intakes are clean and free of dust so that there is good airflow through the computer. Removing the CD burner from service may have removed enough extra heat to help for a while, but it likely didn't fix the overheating problem. I don't see a fan anywhere inside on the CPU, maybe I missed it though if it's really tiny, and I didn't hear one coming from the power supply earlier, but I took the cover off and vacummed the vent hole of the power supply, and now I hear the fan running - I don't know if it runs continuously or only when it needs to, but I thought it ran all the time. I hope it's just dirty and not failing. I need some canned air to give it a good blast in there, I think, it was quite dusted over when I cleaned the vent last weekend. > > If you have to disassemble the computer to clean it make sure you use a > static ground strap while handling any of the electronics and try to do > such work away from carpeting. Your fax speaks to my fax gateway that simple prints the image (as a tiff) and sends it to me. After all, your fax machine doesn't have any memory or hard drive to speak of that you use for archiving faxes. You receive it, you print it. The only thing I don't 'have' to do is print mine since its an attachment to an email from my fax gateway. Since my gateway appends the caller ID to the subject, I can filter on that. No caller ID, then its straight to the bin. Likewise, when sending a fax from my machine, it gets scanned locally before being sent either direct from my machine (as a fax), or via email to the fax gateway as an image. Can't see how that could not be legally binding (unless its down to prior legal grounds). Unless you knew that my fax number was an electronic gateway, you wouldn't be able to tell. Surely ? Additional info. You are correct regarding the fax and with an e-mail (or even a web page [print to screen]) THOSE CAN be manipulated and then a hard copy produced from the manipulated file and it looks just like a valid original - but obviously is not. -- A SpamCop user and forum reader, Not Admin
